Base for desk pen

What is the best way to make the holder in a wood base for a slim line desk pen?

Many different holders can be made. Not sure what you are looking for. But if it is a simple groove in a base then use a router with a core box bit. Depth can be adjusted.

I've been playing around with these. The two smaller ones are made with the core box bit mentioned above. The large one uses nice pen holders from PSI.

The business card holders are super nice. The pen holders are OK. They fit the slimline pen perfectly, but the plating leaves a little bit to be desired, but I will use them again I'm sure.
