I don't turn a lot of maple, because it's a little more porous than some of the exotics, and the light, regular finish shows off every little flaw. But on a whim, I turned this one as a gift this a.m., and when it was still very rough (about 150 grit) I did a couple of fill-ins with thick CA. Then sanded it down and did my usual CA finish. I love the 3D effect a good CA finish gets with the right kind of grain.
