Banksia seed pods

Some stuff I turned out of banksia seed pods for Rockler Woodworking. They wanted to show customers what could be done with it. The winged bowl came from an article in Woodturning Deisgn and the weedpot is a copy of an old ceramic vase I found cleaning out my parents farmhouse.

wow very nice, I tried turning banksia pod once for a little clock and it was all furry. Was yours like that.

I really like the weedpot.
I have a pod that I have yet to attempt, but most likely it'll end up a weed pot or vase.

It was very fuzzy until I got through the outer shell. Kind of like turning a clod of dirt. Wear a good respirator because of the dust. I use a Racal positive air helmet, and I was thankful for the hardhat on it a few times. That was the first bowl I have turned, and I don't really think it was the right thing to learn on. Once the weather is nicer, I will get back to pens. Lots of inspiration on this site.

Nice work, Dale. I like them both! I have 5 of them staring at me when I go out to the shop. I just haven't been able to decide what to do w/them yet.
