I'm trying to find something for my FIL. He currently has a coal furnace that works well and is cheap to run, but he is starting to have problems finding anyone to make small residential deliveries of coal. Also, at 81, he isn't quite as able to care and feed for the beast anymore. He does want to keep using it as much as possible, but would like something else as a secondary heat source - probably gas (natural or LP). My thought was perhaps some kind of boiler with coils added into the existing duct work so the existing blower and ducts would still be used.

Does anyone have any ideas/experience/recommendations for this sort of thing? Most of the addons I've seen have been for adding wood/coal as a backup to gas/electric, but we need the other way around.

Thanks!

Eddie
