Working with the blanks that I received from Australia proved to be so rewarding that I decided to go another round. Here's another six added to my original Aussie group. Each one of the blanks was a joy to work with but I'll warn you in advance to have your sharpest tools ready to go should you decide to tackle these little beasts. In summary these Aussie blanks are a treat for the way they turn, the way they look and just as important the way they smell (very aromatic). Enjoy the pics and feel welcomed to share your comments.

A special thanks goes out to AUSDAN who kindly provided the blanks for my Aussie 'project'.

I guess the bulloak is the same as sheoak, but without pods. That's my favorite too.
The bloodwood looks more like one of the hundreds of varieties of eucalypts.
Nice work.

Hi Peter - well done on some nice pens! I think the bendee looks the good though! Did you use a CA finish on all?
Hi Rob - the bulloak is a completely different genus to that of the numerous 'sheoaks' - but does have the similar rays/markings to the sheoaks. I'm not sure about the 'pods' - is that in relation to 'banksia pods'? You're right about there being a huge variety of eucalypts but the bloodwood is a different genus altogether - it belongs to the corymbia genus - same as the spotted gum.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. I really enjoy turning new species and these were all first timers for me.

Dan, the pens were finished CA, clear industrial lacquer and some with a BUFFING SHAFT (3 part)wax finish.
