While drilling some blanks of what I think is Bocote, it sounded like I was drilling into ground glass, with very hard spots in the wood, kicking the brand new drill all over, ruined 2 blanks. I hesitate to drill any more of this wood. Used the same drill on other woods and worked fine so I don't think it was the drill itself.

Cut one of the ruined blanks apart to see what was in there (rock, knot, etc.) If nothing is there, it may be a dull or chipped drill bit. I've had some brand new bits that were about as sharp as a butter knife.
