Finally got some time to get to the shop and turn another pen.
Set on trying CA finish this time, I went on to read and watch some videos only to get to the conclusion that, apart from some basic techniques there are about some 35934 ways one could use CA as a finish. :)
With that in mind, I decided I should just go ahead and try it and see how it turns out as I go along.
Methos was as follows, please feel free to add your thoughts.
I applied three coats of thin CA, letting it set between each coat.
After that, sanded it with 400, 600 and 800 grit.
Next, I applied three more coats of CA, medium thickness, this time, and used micromesh between each coat. 1500 to 2400 after first, 3200 to 4000 on the second one and finally 6000 to 12000.
After the 12000 grit, I applied some micro gloss with a piece of cloth.
No accelerant was used so it took a little while for the CA to cure and had to wait some time before sanding.

And here is the result, the blank is eucalyptus burl.

I prefer doing all of my micromesh work on the last coat. The end result is glasslike as long as the coats are even. And cross-sanding with at least the first half of the micromesh pads helps out. That being said, it looks like you have a pretty firm grasp of laying down CA. Most of my early attempts with no accellerant were routinely botched. Badly.
