Amboyna is gorgeous, but depending on the starting / finished size of the stopper, GO SLOW! Amboyna moves a LOT when it's cut... even more than most other burls.

Using the thin CA to stabilize it is a great method for preventing excessive warping / checking & cracking.

Do I need resin impregnated amboyna, or can I work with dried amboyna. Making a bottle stopper.

Amboyna..... my favorite pen making material. I've probably made more pens from amboyna burl than any other woods and never experienced any problems with the burl being too soft to turn as-is. I never use ca while turning to stabilize, just start turning and enjoy the aroma. I would say to just chuck up a blank and start turning!

One thing I like to do after turning is to clean the blank with denatured alcohol then blow with compressed air to get all the fine dust out of the tiny pinhole voids then wipe on a coat of Mylands sanding sealer to make the color really pop before applying a ca finish.
