Looking for a source for alternate ivory.

I like the look of it in pictures, but would like to try some on a pen kit and see how it is up close. I saw some at woodcrafters, but all they had was 1 piece meant for a bottle stopper not a pen.

Thanks

Scott

Depends on your time line, I have some on its way from Europe.

Tangboy (Charles) will no longer be selling it, we have agreed that I will take it over.

E-mail if you want further info.

Thanks[:D][:D][:D]

Scott,

Alternative Ivory would NOT be my first choice for a first resin to turn.

You don't show any "plastic pens" in your album - if you have turned plastic and are comfortable doing so, THEN the Alt Ivory is fun. But, it can be frustrating.

Not to steal sales from Ed, but I have some holly that was sent to me. There was a hunk of scrap in the box. I put some bleach in water (apx. 25%) and soaked the holly in it for a couple days. When dried, it came out very white. I'll be making my first 'alternate' ivory pen soon from holly. If it is a success, this may be what I use for my first Emperor.

Frank,

I like all the sales I can get.

HOWEVER, I prefer NO customers to UNHAPPY customers.

Only turn resins if you ENJOY it!!!

I have done a bunch of resins, just lazy when it comes to taking pictures. I have also tried holly and I didn't care for it, I must have been too heavy handed with it.

Thanks for all the info.

Please let me know when you get some in stock and what the pricing will be.

Thanks again.

I have used alt ivory from CSUSA before, was not too happy
with the result, but that was a few years ago. I might try
again soon, perhaps the problem was with opperator error[:0]

Michael,

This is not meant to be critical - I turned (and ruined) a lot of alternative material before I got the first GOOD one. I still only turn it when I am awake!!! A second of nonchalance produces a pile of waste.

But see Alan's work to see what CAN be done!!! (Ashaw)[:0][:0][:0]

I will be carrying all the alternatives. Expect first replenishment of stock in 2 weeks, should have all of Charles' remaining stock early next week.

Will soon be selling on a website (with shopping carts) that is already established (I think).

Thanks, Ed. For me, penturning is simply a part of my woodworking avocation. I believe wood is one of earth's blessings and I enjoy working it. But, for a balanced view, do see issue #1 of Johnny's (TPS) newsletter.

Ed, I'm trying to come up with a new nickname for you - to reflect your larger effort in supplying non-wood blanks. Plastic Man may be copyrighted or trademarked, so how about The Resinator? (Of course it would have to have an audio file with a lot of echo and reverb.)

Chris

Let me know if you want me to keep working on this.[;)]

Edit: I think it was issue #2, not #1.

Now, I just have to coordinate my "mind's eye" with my "tin ear" to hear it perfectly (In a steel drum kinda way!!)

Love it, Chris!
