Some vintage spiral wrapped celluloid paired with black ebonite trim.

The tricky part with this pen was to get the clip ring low in the cap. Where it sits is just above the widest part of the nib wings when the pen is capped. So the nib actually sits through the clip ring height when closed. Still managed to keep the clip both hidden and with the full meat of the clip ring.

I did try a version of this clip with the ring thickness shaved down but ended up weakening the clip too much and it snapped.

I'm pleased with the end result. It's nicely positioned in the middle vertically.

Pardon the dirty threads. I took pictures before I cleaned them up.

I certainly understand your being pleased with it. I would be also. Great looking work.

Ben

Thanks

Where do you get these incredible vintage blanks! I'm sure you won't tell me, but they are stunning.

I'm still working through a batch of stock I bought in bulk some time ago. Quickly running out though and not having much luck finding more.

I love the lizard skin and, most importantly what you did with it!

Knowing how slender the raw material is makes it even more impressive.

I think this was just around 13.2mm thick raw stock which is why I ended up with black ebonite for the cap. A matching cap would have been too thin by the time I trued it up

Very nice Carl. I like the combination of the black cap on the celluloid barrel. It's hard to find those vintage celluloid nowadays. The clip goes well with the pen. I've seen that clip's ring go on the outside to the cap in other pens. First time I've seen it recessed/hidden. Nice work. Thanks for sharing.
