So a friend, whose family has worked for Jack Daniels forever, asked me to make two rings out of a Jack Daniels barrel stave. So FedEx delivered a couple of staves and here is how the rings turned out. The cream color is the natural color of the white oak and the dark parts are where the Jack darkened the wood during the aging process.

Thanks to all for the great comments!

Big, just dive in... they are a lot of fun to do! Start off with some bangles and watch the videos on bangleguy.com and then give the rings a shot. The rings are obviously very similar but the tolerances are much tighter... sand paper is your friend! :)

Thanks again,
Mike

Reddwil, the metal core of the rings come from Eric at bangleguy.com and you can get them as either stainless steel (what these two are) or titanium in sizes 4 to 13 (whole sizes only).
