Assembled this a few weeks ago for a 10 year old patient with an autoimmune disorder that attacked a specific area of his brain.
When I first saw him, he had gone through a lot...headaches, depression, disrupted thought processes, deterioration of motor functions including handwriting and coordination that kept him from his favorite sport of baseball. Classmates teased and bullied him because of his tics or involuntary motor movements in class.
After treatment, it took about six weeks for the inflammation in his brain to subside...his coordination and reaction time improved and last week I cleared him to play.... At the end of the appointment when he was leaving I gave him this pen .....He looked surprised, had a big smile and hugged me. It sort of took me by surprise when he asked me why I was giving it to him. I told him that it was because I admired him and that he was somebody that I would call a hero.

Edit: Just wanted to add that the sports blank is the beautiful work of Keith Henning
