+1 for using the skew. I am afraid I would gouge the blank if I tried to do that.


This is hard to teach in a video.

If you use a very large skew, mine is just over an inch, and you keep it near vertical (I am at about 1-2 o'clock position), then make certain you are presenting the EDGE (the sharp part)!!
I often say, it's like shaving your face, you go parallel, not dig in. Sometimes when I say this in front of a group, the questions show that people are HEARING, "keep your tool parallel to the blank". Well, if you do that, you are not using the edge to cut.

Most important, try a few techniques, when you see ribbons---KEEP doing THAT !!!!
