how many ISPs are out there?

I could see the top dogs trying this, but all the little ISPs that are out there would provide the option for people that want to have unlimited access. So you'd see people leave The big broadband providers and go back to dial-up, but the access would still be there.

Soon, the outflow of customers would force the big guys to open the net back up to their customers.

The difference between TV providers and ISPs is that there is no way to provide every channel available in the world to your tv. There are too many local channels. The net is a different sort.

When we first got the net, back when I was in high school. They had different "packages" you could purchase according to the amount of time you want access. But as soon as some ISP started offering unlimited time they all did. So I really don't think they could go back to "package deals".

The children in the video clearly do not understand what "net neutrality" is. Like everyone else who has more opinion and less fact, they hide their accusations in meaningless catch phrases which are repeated over and over.

Network neutrality is the principle that Internet users should be in control of what content they view and what applications they use on the Internet. The Internet has operated according to this neutrality principle since its earliest days.

Today, the neutrality of the Internet is at stake as the broadband carriers (notably Comcast and Cox) want Congress's permission to determine what content gets to you first and fastest. They are looking to provide premium service across the web on a "pay for performance" basis. Put simply, this would fundamentally alter the openness of the Internet. This does NOT mean an end to the internet!

If you want to follow the folks who are charged up about this, check out http://www.openinternetcoalition.com/ . It is reasonably non-partisan and will give you some thoughts as to how to take part and be counted in this debate.

I'm not too concerned about the internet ending, however I can see it changing. Everything does...especially where money is involved.

Also, with this country slipping into a dictatorship, I wouldn't be surprised. We continually loose our individualism. We are always told what we can do, when we can do it, how to do it, and most times that we aren't allowed to do it. Unless you have full pockets and can grease the wheel.

I got to the end of the internet last week. The last "boss" was extremely hard to beat! :D

I can send you the cheat code for the ultimate 'final log off' move if you want, Lou.

It also gives you an Al Gore sidekick to fight beside you, and although he's pretty ineffectual at that high a level, he does take some of the focus off you for a minute until he gets wiped out.
