I had someone track me down and request a few pens from 100 yr old wood his dad had laying around. He shipped it, and it was a bit worn as you can see. I filled with alumilite and think it turned out well.

He also had some cedar for which I made a Jr. Twist Ballpoint. Great set of components if you ever get a chance to make them.
Both finished with CA.

Thanks for looking and adding any comments or suggestions!

Erick, great job on the pens. I love turning red cedar, the smell is so wonderful and it fills the whole shop for a long time after I quit. I find that the transition from the red heart wood to the white sap wood to require very sharp tools and a lite touch otherwise the white wood tends to tare out. Great save on the old barn wood. It looks like it was well on the way to just fall apart.

Excellent work, Eric. I like the look of the Jr. ballpoint. How many of these have you done?

I also found that eventually over time the red cedar turns to a muddy brown color and eventually the scent goes away...but it s very pretty when it finished.

The cedar was tough with some cracks and tear outs, but CA is a beautiful thing. I've done 3 or 4 of the Jr. Gent twists and am always happy with them.

It was not too bad. Very soft but because I had infused it with resin,it turned quite easy. It was from a barn built by his grandfather.
