My first attempt outside the standard kits design. One is Red oak and the other is spalted maple.

I got to say that I added sanded to 600 grit. Added 6 coats of CA and sanded to 12000 Grit.

Yes, the nib is the twist. I can't remember which website I got the idea from. I had to buy a long 7mm bit. It was fun making them.

Me either on the Red Oak. It is a special lot of blanks that came from wood that my grandfather and great uncle cut years and years ago. My grandfather has been gone for 46 years. My great uncle just died this year at 92. Before he died, he gave my dad 20-25 boards 12 ft long. It had been in his barn for more than 60 years. My dad has been making reglious crosses out of it for the family. I have been using the scraps.

The key here is obviously the age of the oak. You would be hard pressed to find grain that nice and tight on oak cut today. Really nice pen!
