Will "A" and "B" mandrels both fit in Beall's 1/4" Collet?? Or is there a source for 7mm and 8mm ER32 collets?
Thanks.
Thanks.
I think you may find you need the 1/4 and the 5/16 collets.
Both of my mandrels have gone by the wayside since I started turning between centers..... the "B" mandrel seems to have gone by the wayside.
the ends of both the "A" and "B" mandrels that i have are 1/4" diameter and fit in the same 1/4" collet. people get confused between mandrel size and the od of the tube. the 7mm slimline tubes are 1/4" id and 7mm od. most all new bushings are 1/4" id and fit what seems to be the standard for mandrels nowadays. the "B" mandrel seems to have gone by the wayside.
It appears that Bob is using the Berea High Precision Drill Driver System and I am guessing the ends of both the "A" & "B" mandrels are milled to 1/4" to fit into the HP arbor.... sort of analogous to threaded mandrels where both the "A" & "B" mandrels are threaded to the same 1/4" x 28 so they will fit the same arbor. (Woodcraft mandrels, excepted, as they are threaded differently......10x32 IIRC)
another odd thing about these mandrels is they both have 1/4"-20 threads so i can't use the knurled brass nuts.
Tony: Are you saying your Berea High Precision mandrels have a 1/4" x 20 thread on the tail stock end??
YES! I would like to find knurled brass nuts or something to fit these. I think someone on IAP sold plastic adapters that these nuts would fit into a couple years ago but I haven't seen them now for quite some time.
