I'm wearing out my keyboard searching for nautical ideas.

I've already made my father a mechanical scrimshaw pen with a schooner on it, but I'd like to make him something else.

Are there any kits that have anchors or anything else nautical?

1) Get a Patty Sole custom painted tube from Exotics.

2) Try to find some wood from a famous salvaged ship. A while ago there was some from the Andrea Doria, but there may be others

I have some teak from the original deck of the USS North Carolina that I will trade. Also have a letter from the museum.

I designed "The Mast Pen" This is a registered work.
This photo is of a prototype I made to register the work.. The actual pen will be a lot thinner and much better made. In fact it won't be a Slimline. This photo is just for you to get the idea.
I am in the process of making some soon which I will try to sell at a shipmodeling forum.

I have heard some rumors that HMS Victory is having a major overhaul, so a lot of her wood would be available. Being an avid ship model builder myself, making a pen set from my favorite ship's wood, would be a dream come true. I am doing some research on this matter.

These are some I've done:

Diamond Braid Pen

I also made a pen from cast sailcloth with 5x7 turk's head knot. I wasn't happy with the outcome, however, so I never photographed it.

I hope the links prove interesting,
Eric

Yes these are the ones I remembered. Still great to look at. Thanks for showing again Eric.

This was one of my favorite entries from this years birthday bash. I know you have done scrimshaw but I really like the way the cord was wond around the cap and thought that might spark and idea for you.

Thanks for all the amazing examples! I've had my hands full with my little one and the flu, so I haven't had a chance to thank everyone!
