Step back and look through the descriptions again, one is listed as DOA in it's title, and the seller states that it is sold as-is. Another has a $45.00 s&h which is IMHO just some good ol' fee avoidance.

On the whole Gast makes very good pumps. My problem with picking up a used Gast, unless you know were it came from you don't know what has been through it. Case in point, the fellow I get space from for my glass work was out garage sale-ing, and found a Gast pump for $5.00, yes it was a bargain but when I went to give it a try I started reading the plates bolted to it. It had been used in a Asbestos air sampling system. No notice of decontamination was affixed. I put it in a box, taped it up and walked away. I don't need anymore troubles with my breating thank you. Now keep in mind that this is my isolated "Horror Story". It doesn't mean anything about the rest of these recovered units.

Now I am not saying to buy this one, but this is the one I have been watching, it is new, and waranteed, and yes, costs more. It is a 2 stage HVAC evacuator unit. The HVAC forums that I infrequent haven't talked about this vacuum, but one of the mod'ing, and modelling forums I also infrequent 4 or 5 guys have it and say it is great. I don't own one, but am thinking about picking one up in the next coupla months.

You don't want DOA? Also,is that one you've been watching were you going to buy that one? Maybe the seller sells some more like that. I just want to Stabilize my own blanks. Could someone point me to a cheap one? Thanks ahead!:D

Traditionally when something is listed as DOA it means Dead On Arrival. It doesn't work. It is good only for parts.

The auction I listed the seller lists about 5 a week of that model. I meant I had been traking the model and doing research, not that I was going to bid on that one auction.

Do you have a refrigerator repair shop anywhere near you? Or a recycling center? You can use a old refridgerator compressor as a vacuum pump. Quite often you can find the refrigerators in your own neighborhood awaiting pickup for disposal, ideal for a salvage job(free).

You are correct Gast does have Diaphragm pumps that are prefixed DOA, but not the 0523 models. The 0523 models are rotary vane. So we don't know what the seller means other than this is a inaccurate title.

Jared, watch all these auctions, don't jump on any. See what they close for. Call the Surplus Center and ask them for a quote on shipping to your address, a new never used Gast 0523 runs $89.00. If you buy it from the Surplus Center you will probably need to call Gast about a wiring diagram to wire it up.

Guys READ what it says in the ad "Used but working guaranteed not DOA" ... not that it IS DOA but its guaranteed if it arrives DOA .
The one that has DOA in the title says "NOT DOA" and in the ad it states "NOT DOA"

I would recommend that if you do go with a vac pump from ebay, locate a seller named tvacman(sp). I ordered a pump from him. it had a minor problem when I got it and he immediately sent a new pump to me and even had a 3rd lined up ready to go if needed. The guy was great to work out the details with.
