Alice, powder coating is the technique of applying dry paint to a part. Usually the powdered paint is electrostatically charged and sprayed onto the part.

Best place for an inexpensive unit is Harbor Freight. But they only carry a few colors of the powder. I will try to post some source for the powder later on. You can even get metallics and clear.

Best place that I've found is http://www.columbiacoatings.com

Harbor Freight has a nice little PC system which is on sale often for $59.95 and you will need an air compressor and some kind of oven to bake the parts. I use a small toaster oven I got at Goodwill for $5. There is a good tutorial at the yahoo penturners site written by Ash Webb. It is also located at http://www.GeckoWoodWorks.com

From what little I understand it is a very long lasting product. One other place to look for information and supplies is http://shorinternational.com/plating.htm I haven't really checked the site out much as I have not yet bought any of the equipment. I believe that this place is one that was a suggested Company in the article on Yahoo.
