I'm new to pen turning and I've made a couple of slim line pens. Is it common for the center ring to spin once the pen is put together? I think it is but I don't really like the fact that is does. Has any one glued them in place or does any one see any problems doing so?

Yes, it is common for the center ring to spin.

I don't see a problem gluing them into place. Many of us make slimlines with custom centerbands that are glued into place. Slimlines are so much fun to modify, and the centerband is the easiest place to start.
