After you drill the blank out, paint the inside of the hole. It helps lighten/darken/tint the pen, as well as keep brass tube from showing through. Like the one I posted, the blank was VERY light and had a lot of white in it. It would look totally different if I'd done white instead of black.

To add to the good Doctor's info - it's strictly for acrylic blanks - not wood. Changing the color can impact the final look of the pen. It sure beats an ugly brass tube peering through your acrylic!
