Question for closed end pen makers

[Ruby pen turning]

I have made 2 closed end pens and would like to do double closed end pens. The question is, if a pen blank is 5-5 1/4 where do you have enough wood for the entire pen. Do you use different blanks where the grain would not match? or do you get longer blanks?

this pen I had started wanting to make it a double closed end.

You will need longer blanks if you want the grain to match.

The wood is Buckeye Burl. It is my second favorite behind the rosewood burls.

depending on shape, you can get a double closed end from a standard blank. The tubes added together are just over 4 inches if memory serves.

It's close but it can be done with a standard sized blank. You just have to be exact with your measurements. Here's one I've done with a single trustone blank that's 5 1/4".
