Hi all,

I need some advice. I turned an abalone blank I purchase from Roy at Classic Nibs and as I was getting down to final shaping...POP! The whole blank exploded. My question is the following:

Is there anyone who would be willing to recast this blank for me? The shell is free of resin as it the remaining two small pieces popped right off. I am willing to pay with $$ or trade for pen kits or blanks.

-OR-

Any other advice?

See attached picture.

Thanks for any suggestions or input.

I re-read my post and realized that may have sounded like their was a defect in the blank...this was not my intent. I am not sure if I was being too aggressive or if I caught an edge, or ?? Just wanted to clarify.

Roy, thank you for the offer to replace the blank. You give, above and beyond, the best service. I'll PM the info to you.

We have turned several clear resin, more delicate blanks, circuit boar, carbon fiber, Paua shell. We typically use EZTool scrapers; but, for these we only use sanding. We go as far as we can on a sander and then finish on the lathe.
