Do you guys ever mix woods on your pens?
I'm talking about a different species on the top & bottom.
I have some nice Mesquite, and some very nice Cherry I'd like to mix on a slimline pen.
Think it'll work?

I would say go for it, if yo don't like it the tubes on a slimline are the same length so you can just make a complete Mesquite or Cherry with another set of tubes.

If I may expand on khogan16's advice i would say just go ahead and make two slim lines,if you like them mixed up great! If not you have two really nice pens either way. Mike

I've done wood and acrylic combos. These are blackwood and acrylic.

I made some really nice pens from mistakes, I had one that i was planning on making from cross cut paduk into a fountain pen. While I was turning it, my gouge caught it and it blew apart on me. I cleaned the tube off and glued some quilted maple for the cap. It turned out to be one of my favorite combos.
Here's a couple pics of it.

I mix and match all the time... both woods and antler, different species of woods, woods and acrylics (although these seem a little tougher to match well)... comes down to whether you like the combo or not.
