I am still in the design stage of my Route 66 pen. I am using a Majestic Black TN/Rhodium Rollerball because of the size needed to add the Route 66 sign. I am still working on how to add the two white lines going up the middle of the pen (Wizard has given me some great ideas).
I did not want to use the cap of the pen. So, I found a place that sells Route 66 buttons. So, will knock the cap out and replace it with this:

In going through their web catalog, I found a number of metal buttons that would add something different to larger pens:
