Baseball Bat Pen Revisited

Last year I started to design my own baseball bat pen. I used a pocket pen
kit. Worked ok. This year I am using a slim line kit. This was my first attempt. Needs work.

I need to shape it more was late when I did this one.


I will improve the shape and attempt a close end bat end. The wood used here is ash. Will post progress updates.

Agree. Shape needs to be better defined. If you hadn't said so, I would not think it to be a baseball bat. My experience is that ash does not make a good wood for turning pens as it is too open grained. Same with hickory, oak, some walnuts and others. Yours look pretty coarse, I'm surprised you assembled them that way.

Here was my initial attempt with a S/L kit. It is hickory. It needs work on the shape also.

Here is a bat pen I turned this evening. Better but still needs work. I didnt put a finish on this pen yet.
