It's been awhile since my last post; although I continue to check the site periodically. Here is the latest pen using one from a batch of Spalted Oak that I I had stabilized using Cactus Juice. The blanks then stayed on the shelf for about 8 months. I was still careful with it taking thin shavings with the skew. I think it turned out well. Only applied about 4 coats of thin CA and finished with Ren Wax.

Happy holidays everyone and thanks for looking.

Mark

Oak is awesome! Glad someone else isn't 'put off' of it(been hearing tall tales about how bad it is lately)!!

Did the 'juice' make it all the way through the timber? Predrilled was it? Or just really soft(oak is generally really hard is why I ask)?

Love the pen, and the timber!!!! Can't wait to see more!!!

Thanks everyone. Scott, the blanks were cut oversized and probably did not soak all the way thru. Although, this is the first blank turned from the batch. Good idea on pre-drilling to allow more stabilizer juice to soak in.
