Similarly to Dean, my original pen design lacked a CB. I set it aside.
As I worked thru ideas for a submission, I came up with this design.
The idea was along the lines of a formal outfit for a couple going out on the town.
The upper barrel is very masculine in black walnut with curly maple accents; the lower barrel rather feminine in curly maple, black walnut and bloodwood.
The same basic woods with very distinct results.
The shape is something I've been playing with and I much prefer it without the CB.
The contest was lots of fun with a good outcome.

Very nice Gary. Actually the first picture didn't do it justice. That was the one they posted in the contest thread.
I really like the look when you can see more of the long stripes, which the first picture hides.

I think that shape would be popular for the same reason mine is.. I bet it makes it easier to write with.

Gary, very handsome pen. How does that shape feel in your hand. It looks nice...especially with the symmetry on top/lower barrel. I like that better than when the shape is only on the lower barrel.

Thanks for the compliments. Y'all sure make some good lookin' pens. This was fun.

It's very comfortable to use.
Sometimes, I'll hold a pen in such a way that the first joint on my index finger locks causing "death grip white knuckle".
Using this shape, there's a natural tendency to relax one's grip.
My index finger follows the flow up the nib and along the arris.
