Made a couple of pens over the weekend.
First up is a Classic American. I was originally going to make a closed end and closed cap pen, but couldn't get things quite right, so I ended up going the safe route with it. This pen was a gift for my grandma...
Second is a simple slimline with a custom centerband. The center band is made from padauk and the two barrels are made from what i believe is Mexican Cherry. I can't verify this as the tree was burned down in the Witch Creek Fire in San Diego County 2 years ago. It was on my wife's grandpa's property and was pruned about 6 months before the fire destroyed the house and everything in the area. I was able to make a bowl and 3 other pens out of one of the pruned branches. This is the last piece of woodwork that I'll be able to make from this tree and it is a gift for my wife's uncle - the other 3 pens belong to my wife's aunt and other two uncles. The bowl belongs to my mother-in-law.
