I used blue sand to fill in the cactus- looks kind of like turquoise- on a polaris. I've had this one for awhile and it is holding up well. Cactus is just what you would expect someone from the southwest to have in their pocket.

If the sand is really fine it is not too hard on the tools- course sand is instant dullness. I turn the blank down to almost finished size- then fill the voids and soak the sand with CA.

Reptile tank sand?

I got the sand at hobby lobby- it comes in different colors and it was 99 cents for a large container. Picked up black, blue and red- the blue had the finest sand of the three and was the easiest to work with.
