double cross

This is my first attempt at a double cross pen. I still have to make a few adjustment but overall it looks real nice. The wood is redheart bands and curly hard maple.

Bruce I had to cut 4 times in all. 45 degree cuts, two on each side.

The execution looks good. I would suggest using thinner bands, you'll actually have more contrast with thinner bands.

Gerryr,I would like to usev thinner bands but you are limited by the width of your table saw blade. You have to use the same size as your blade to make everything line up.

I use a band saw and after the first cut, I make two cuts instead of one. That way I can use thinner material.

Very nice looking pen!

So, I started using my regular table saw to do these with a 1/8 kerf (0.125). I too thought it was too thick.

I went to the lowes and picked up a frued 7 1/4 inch thin kerf blade with a 5/8 inch arbor hole. I found it had a kerf of about 5/64 (0.078125). That works quite a bit better for me.

I'd still like it thinner, but the 7 1/4 inch blade was pretty cheap.

It cracks me up however, when I think about how good it works in my 10" grizzly cabinet saw. IT's a bit of over kill...

(And to think how much my woodworker II blade cost....)
