Damn. Given that vendors are selling single inserts at $14.99 a piece, even their non-sale price of $25 for ten is spectacular.
THAT site is getting bookmarked
OH and it keeps on getting better:

There are 2 shipping rates for your address:
  • Free Standard Shipping: $0.00
  • Express Shipping: $29.99

Just dropped an order on a set of 10 but wish I would have looked at the rest of the site first. I probably would have tried their bandsaw blades and maybe a 10" saw blade. Maybe next time.

I now buy all carbide through Amazon. If they are inferior to Easy Wood - I cannot detect it. $2/ chip works for me. That is .50/side.

Does anyone know if there are truly pointy (not rounded) inserts for the EWT Full Size Detailer? I have the standard inserts for it, but they have a notably rounded tip...its not actually pointy, which greatly limits its versatility as a...well, detailer.

I thought I'd come across a truly pointed (sharp, puncture your finger kind of pointed) detailer carbide tip at one point, but I've never been able to find it again.

Carbide is a brittle material and a sharp point would break off too easily. Since they were developed from the machining industry I doubt you will find any with a sharp tip. A small radius sure.

Will this one do assuming you have a tool to hold it?

They have the tool too.

I have the diamond from TASP and use it like stole it; havent broken it in 6 months. I cut rock-hard stabilized hardwoods, epoxy resin + hardwood, and mica filled polyester resin.... turning squares into circles daily. 10 bits are 466THB around $15USD.

Time for me to walk back what I said above.

10 cheap inserts from Amazon and rand new out of the box and they started causing tear outs no matter how light a cut I tried. When I swapped in an Easy Wood Tool Ci2-Ri2 on the same piece I stopped having problems.

File this one under "the high cost of going cheap". The rework time alone on a blank blowout means that these are more expensive than quality ones.

To late for me to return, these are now in the trash

Can do. PM me your address. Fair warning, I'm not the only one to review 'em as causing problems.

I have every tasp (cheap) carbide tool. The only tool that has caused problems for me is the small round circle bits; difficult to describe in words but the carbide bit is so small that the workpiece will actually catch on the tool holder if you do not have the tool rest perfect height...as the carbide does not hang far over the tool. I am sure I could grind down the holder and make improvements but have not had the time.

Oddly the larger diameter carbide circle bits are my go-to tool for almost everything. The square is #2.

To expand on what I said above:
I was on the last mil or so of some acetone and swapped out my dull EWT R2 for one of the Amazon cheapies and I immediately started getting snags and catches. Tried it for about 3 or 4 passes with very light cuts on the last two passes and it snagged every time.
I swapped in my very last EWT blade and it started cutting smooth as butter again.

So you tell me - on the same blank at the same depth I went from having no real problem with a dull carbide, to getting catches instantly with a cheap Amazon and then back to not having any problems with a new EWT.

Now if Keith can get 'em to work - great. Far better than them sitting in a landfill. But for me, it's just not worth risking the blank or the time I sank into it.

Been there and experienced that Dario's. There's definitely more to a carbide cutter than just its price. They are not all made the same. EWT cutters have never let me down and worth every penny in my book!
