General Information[edit]

Afzelia refers to a genus of trees and includes about 13 species. These trees are legumes, and are native to southern Africa and Asia.

Afzelia can also be spelled 'afzilia'. There may be other variants.

Afzelia wood supplied as pen blanks is orange red in color and often is supplied as a burl or xylay blanks. I saw one listing where xylay was explained as 'loosely translated, the grain runs every which way'.
