Wood identity crisis?

Can someone help me identify this chunk of wood?

Looks like some DIW Sapwood I have a little yellow for maple?

Maple would be my guess too.

It might help if you could show a better picture of the bark.

If it smells a little spicy - it may be oregon myrtle. The bark and the color of the wood suggest maple though.

I don't know what it is, but it sure has a nice grain to it.

I'm guessing sweetgum.

I suppose it might help to add that this was wood found in our woodpile outside Austin Texas and it's 95% likely to be some local wood.

My guess is pecan.

Looks like maple to me.
