I haven't used it, but I can see how it works. Photocopiers and laser printers use heat to transfer ink to the paper; by putting the paper on a pen and heating it, you can transfer the ink to the pen.

I'm sure it will transfer the ink and look fine at first... but it won't last unless well-sealed. Ever notice cracks or flaking in old photocopies?

Of course, a transfer sealed under a tough finish should be fine, as long as the ink doesn't smear as you apply the finish. You can always test by putting a little of your finish on a test copy/printout to see if it dissolves the ink.

I have one of the cheap Walnut Creek Woodburner kits that has a transfer tip very similar to this. I haven't used this tip much, but I find the wand difficult to use in general mainly because your handhold is so far from the tip. You don't have much control. The little that I used this tip, I found that it does what it says, but you have to be careful not to hold on an area so long that you darken the wood.

I used a woodburner and as long as you evenly heat the whole area and keep it so you can still touch the paper after you pass along it, it works great. It is like I printed on the wood. The difficult thing is getting the right size and printing text backwards.

The transfer wand from PSi has been around for a long time. Its merits have been discussed here before. Don't waste your money. The same results (or better) can be achieved without it.

Our search feature here on IAP is an excellent one and is not used as much as it should be. One of the above posts is all the way back to 2005.

Do a good turn daily!

Has anyone used this tool and does it work well? Or should I stay away from it ?
