Top to bottom: Butternut, Bubinga, Beech. Top two kits are Gatsby, bottom kit Executive (all from Penn State).

I'm still a relative turning newbie - experienced woodworker but just started turning recently. I'm pretty much just trying different woods to figure out what I like to turn and what I don't. Out of these three, I didn't particularly enjoy turning butternut - it sort of just sloughs off the tool in stringy fibers and isn't easy to sand - but the end result was sure beautiful. Bubinga and beech turn very nicely.
