venturi from HF and use 50/50 elmers glue
could I successfully stabilize 4x4x4 heavily
spalted blocks ????

I do not believe Elmers would be the thing to use. Mainly because it is a water based glue. I would advise on using something a lot hardier than Elmers, something like a clear finish like one of the polyurathanes. I just do not believe that the Elmers would hold up in the long run.

Do a search here for "stabilization" and see what others are using and their experiences. I personally use a solution of MEK and styrofoam with the HF pot as my vacuum container. I recently posted my method on the Forum someplace?? [:D]

Elmers would not be a good choice for this as the resin involved does not really get that hard and it would take that wood a really long time to dry.

Richard, Russ Fairfield uses the 50/50 Elmers (or other white glue) and water method and says it works well for him. However, I don't think he uses blocks that size. IIRC, he rough turns the object first... but I may be worng in my recollection.
