Pencil Question

You know that Centerpiece that connects the bottom and top halves of the mechanical pencil? Does anyone know what can be used whereas there is no Centerband showing on the final project?

I don't know about the casing pencils, but, For the pencils I've done, the center is not needed. I drilled through the whole length and just made sure that the total length I ended up with was the same as it would have been with the CB. Here is and example. I call it the "dont loose me" pencil, given to my 14 yr old daughter.
