Had the weirdest thing happen today.
I put an antler pen in a walnut box that had been wiped with mineral spirits last night.
I showed the pen to someone earlier this morning and everything was ok.
I opened the box later on after it had been in my truck and there was a distinctive amber or yellowish ring around part of the pen.
I was heartsick because then pen had a beautiful creamy white color more like ivory.
I have it sitting in a rack in the house and the ring has faded considerably.
Has anyone who has worked with deer antler have anything like this happen?
I did coat the antler with CA after sanding with 220 grit.no BLO.
I sanded and the way thorough micromesh and then clear coated it finishing up with Butchers wax.

I doh't think I've ever had anything like this happen, adn I have had several antler pens and other items. I am very careful about not leaving them where they could get hot though. I can't even venture a guess as to what would cause it. there is a marrow in the antler. I'm wondering if coloration from that coudl have moved around.
