Our turning clubs challenge for December is to turn an old fashion throw top. Spent a lot of time as a kid on the playground at school having battles with other kids tops. The older members of IAP will know what I'm talking about. Turning a top is fairly easy using Jim's templets, but getting it to spin is a whole other ballgame. After about 100 failed attempts, I'm done. Time to move on to another project. I watched youtube videos, used nylon string, cotton string, hell, even bailing twine, nothing worked. I guess that part of childhood is gone, never to return. I guess I could blame it on the Purple and Gold coloring!!!

Nice work. Brings back childhood memories. My brother and I spun tops all the time. I don't know if I could do it now. I have some that were hand carved by my great grandfather and his brother that are still intact, as well as a few my brother and I bought. Thanks for posting.
