With all this talk of faceted pens, I want to put an indexing stop on my metal lathe so that I can use a grinder held in the tool holder using this
Rotary Tool Mount for Mini Lathe - LittleMachineShop.com

So my question is this: how or where do I put an indexing stop on it? Can the mounting plate for the three jaw chuck have holes drilled in it? Is that something a normal machine shop could do? If they do that, I can make the index stop that attaches to the bed.

Any machine shop should be able to machine an indexing plate and drill out your existing mount to accept it.
Here's a guy that made one from plywood: Indexing
I purchased the dremel holder from Kenbo Tools; mounts to standard tool holder; works great: products Page

Hi hard hat, you should be able to make up a stop arrangement that utilizes the gear setup on the back of the lathe. Using a block and sliding pin arrangement, you would have virtually any amount that is required, just calculate it properly.
If unable to work one out, let me know and I will design and make one.
To drill holes in the mounting plate your lathe would probably have to be dismantled as the mounting plate and shaft are one unit, unless a spacer block was made.
