First Corn Cob

Managed some shop time today and was able to try a Corn Cob pen. Here is the result:

Gold Sierra corn cob finished with CA.

Good-looking pen! And it gave me an idea...I have a "piece" of cob that blew out during drilling--just maybe there's enough there for a Sierra!!!! Thanks!

Did you manage to complete it first time?


I blew out on 2 blanks before I managed to complete my first corn cob. Tricky things to get right.

Did you stabilise with CA?

Kenny,
I was aware of the possibility of blowing it up, so I took it very slowly and make sure my skew was sharp. I did manage to finish it on the first attempt. Yes, I stabilized the inside with thin CA before gluing in the tube and also coated with CA several times during turning. Of course my Dad always said that it's better to be lucky than good [][].
