Years ago I did some woodcarving and I wanted to give it a try again so I bought a beginners kit ans tried to make the old ball in a cage. The wood was not square so I had trouble making a round ball but I think I'm going to practice and maybe carve a little this winter.

The two pictures are from the same carving, I just wanted to show you that the ball was indeed free and it was carved from a single block of basswood.
