One thing about Olivewood... you just never know what is going to happen when you get in there with some turning. This was a dead plain piece of olivewood with the exception of one slightly figured area. By the time I got done opening it up, the thing was totally different and pleasantly so.

This one was sanded to 600 grit. I sealed the ends in CA and then 10 coats of thin CA applied and it was wet sanded to MM-12000 with ScratchX Extreme and PlastX with a Ren wax finish.

This is my return to wood after a zillion plastic pens. Enjoy!

That's wonderful piece of olive wood. Nice job on the cigar pen, Bree.

Except for that little knot, the blank was BORING. I had very low expectations on it. I bought it at an auction for pennies with some other blanks. Haha... Turned out nice. Go figure.

BTW... this finish was done with the method I described in the Tips section of this website. Very fast and pretty nice if I say so myself!!

Born in the USA--Can you name the wood?

This wood was going to be a bowl but it split after rough turning. Being a cheap b***tard, I had to salvage something from it, so I went to work with the bandsaw. I liked the look of the crosscut pieces. This one came from right next to the pith. I have a couple more like it and now that I see it finished, I know what pen I'm going to use them on.

So what's the wood? Grows in the U.S.:confused::confused:
