I needed to make a slim for my aunt with this wood, it was her tree to start with so we're gifting her with a pen.
I tried a few days ago to turn one and the wood went poof! A bit too fragile for a thin turning. This time arount I was careful to soak the end grain very well with thin ca and let it set up overnight. Turning it I used the tip of my skew the whole way to reduce cutting stresses on the wood. When it was down to size I stopped and gave it all a good soaking in CA so the sandpaper wouldn't tear out the softer parts and make it lumpy. After a good cure and sanding to a final polish with sandpaper and micromesh a trip to the buffer finished it off. Assembly was with a Woodcraft slimline kit.
