Practicing up for this wood PITH, I thought I better get used to wood again. I received this in a trade box at one point. Placed on an Executive. CA finish.
I'm also working on the photo work. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks for looking!

It's a great looking pen!
Commenting on your photo, it looks like the light is coming only from the right side, and thus making one end of the pen brighter than the other, plus casting a shadow. The curved shadow following the dip under the pen distracts from your main point of interest - The pen.

If you can, I'd recommend at least one more light on the other side to balance it out a bit (or a reflector placed such to bounce some of the source light back in). And possibly a third above and to the front to even it all out. Optionally, setting up for taking the photo outside or near a large sky-lit window, using natural lighting would be another possibility.

Thank you! Also, thanks for the pointers, Dave. I will see what I can do next time. Figuring out light metering and taking pictures of these little subjects is a fun challenge!
