Three Cigars, same burl, different finishes.

I am not sure what the burl is. It is kind of soft like a fir or cedar. There was no name on it when I bought it in Nagoya.

All three pens are finished with CA.

1. Pen on the left was stabilized with polyurethane. CA taken to 12000.

2. Pen in the middle was stabilized with acetone desolved acrylate. CA finish taken to 12000.

3. Pen on the right was stabilized with acetone desolved acrylate. CA finish taken to 8000 and then back down to 3200 for a final flat/mat finish.

There are a few more notes on the "Finish forum" as to the differences and a closer pict of the mat finished pen.

My guess would be that they are chokecherry burls. I've got a few blanks of the stuff. They look just like those, turn very easily and are moderately soft.
