This pen was made with two separate blanks. The outer blank is dark curly spalted maple. The inlay is birds eye maple. This was my first attempt at this style of pen. I drilled a 29/64 hole in the outer blank, and a 27/64 hole in the inlay blank which the brass tube was epoxied in. The inlay blank was turned down to 29/64, finished and epoxied into the darker blank. Caution was taken not to take material off to quickly to prevent chipping away the outer blank. Sanded to 1200 grit and finished with a home made recipe of French Polish, which brought out the depth in both blanks creating a nice even finish.
