General information

Also known as tamaran, tamarin, tamarino.

Tamarind can refer to two different trees, one is the same as monkeypod. True tamarind originates in Africa but has been naturalized in India and other locations. Monkeypod originated in Mexico but has been imported to a number of Asian and East Indian countries and islands. It is considered a weed in Hawaii.

The wood (assumed to be 'true' tamarind) is usually supplied as a spalted pen blank. The resultant wood is pale in color with distinct spalt lines running through it.

Turning Tamarind

Spalted tamarind can be quite punky and may need to be soaked with thin CA? glue to stablize the wood when turning.
